Daily Message - Aug. 26

Good Morning,

Looking ahead to this weekend and the week that follows, here’s an overview of the work to be done:

  • Complete Quiz 1 by Friday.
  • Post an image to the course roster, an informal profile, and a formal introduction to the appropriate spaces on the discussion boards by Sunday.
  • Post a draft of your Analysis Memo (only) to your peer review space by Sept. 3 and respond to the drafts from your peer review group by Sept. 5.
  • You need to complete Exercise 1, Quiz 2 and Quiz 3 by Sept. 5.
  • Submit a revised draft of your Analytic Memo for optional instructor review Sept. 15.
One thing to keep in mind to be successful in this course is your ability to read and apply what you've read. If you have not developed an effective reading strategy at this time, you should begin to be reflective about this activity for the future. For example, I've found it effective to read everything twice. The first time I read, however, I just skim over the material and make notes about important features that pop out. Then I go back and read more closely for the details. Remember, reading is not necessarily about remembering (or memorizing) everything. You need to have a grasp, an understanding, of the material in order to apply it effectively.

This course, more than anything else, is a practical course, so you need to figure out how you can get the most out of your reading in the most efficient way possible. But reading is only one aspect, albeit an important one, of this course. So in terms of the larger module, be sure you are familiar with the expectations for all parts of the module before you start reading from the textbook. Read with a purpose, and then go through and complete the rest of the work for that module.

As I intimated in a previous message, students who have the most success in this course are the ones who set time aside every day to work on the course and stay on top of the workload. Students who try to complete everything in a last-minute rush to meet the deadline usually do poorly.

I'll check in tomorrow, but your next message will be on Monday.

Have a great day and a great weekend.

As always, if you have questions or concerns, please let me know.
